Why I joined Beautycounter

Do you know what you are putting on your skin everyday?

Most of us are striving to live a healthier life. We try to eat real food and get exercise daily. But did you ever think about what you are putting ON your body? I didn't either until I read the book,  The Autoimmune Solution by Dr. Amy Myers in 2015. My eyes were opened as I learned about the harmful effects of toxins in our environment. After being on my health journey for three years, I decided it was time to take it another step further. I started eliminating harsh household cleaners. I opted for natural and organic products with a focus on gluten and soy free, striving for a safer alternative all around. As I ran out of a product, I purchased a safer option or made my own version for cleaning.

Environmental Working Group (EWG) and Discovering Beautycounter

Then in 2016, I learned about the Environmental Working Group and the skin deep database which is an organization that ranks the toxicity level in almost 70,000 products. I was surprised that some of my “natural” products still had a moderate rating with some ingredients I didn’t want. I instantly started digging for more and more information. I spent hours researching different products by their overall score and ingredient scores.  The products coming in at the lowest score or EWG verified won my vote. New year. New start. January 2017, I decided to say goodbye to my natural brand of makeup and try out Beautycounter’s Tint Skin Foundation.

Soon I went on to try their other products including the charcoal cleansing bar and the citrus mimosa body bar. Quite honestly, I was skeptical but they are EWG verified . I absolutely loved them! The body bar lathers extremely well creating thick soapy suds! Plus, your body will not be left feeling tight like traditional bar soap. The charcoal bar is even more amazing! I use it quite often to wash my face and I am loving what it is doing for my skin. Depending on your skin type, it can be a little drying but I do not have a problem with using it almost daily.

Beautycounter, safer skin care and beauty

  • There are many chemicals and toxins affecting our endocrine systems, like parabens, phthalates, dyes and artificial coloring, perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA, think Teflon), BPA and fragrance to name a few.

  • Teens Turning Green actually created a list called “Dirty Thirty” of 30 toxins that affect our hormones and endocrine system.

  • Environmental toxicity can be a huge concern for individuals with autoimmune conditions. (Ex: heavy metal toxicity, mold toxicity, and estrogen dominance)

  • With my mission on helping women with thyroid dysfunction, I knew I wanted to be sure it was a company that I could trust to recommend to others.

Beautycounter bans Harmful ingredients

They care about the ingredients! Truly, 100%!  The United States has only partially banned 30 chemicals, while the European Union has banned more than 1,300 chemicals in personal care products! What does this mean for Beautycounter? They have banned more than 1,500 questionable chemicals.

80,000 known chemicals are registered for use in the personal care industry. 80% are approved in little as 3 weeks with little to no safety testing.

Did you know that the FDA allows companies to make their own judgments about the safety of chemicals in their products? While it would be wonderful if we lived in a world where every company wanted to protect the health and wellness of their customers, that is not the case. We live in a society where cheap quality equals more money for the company.

So you might be asking, so why would we trust Beautycounter?

Beautycounter believes that we deserve better and they are willing to put in the hard work to do something about it! Not only have they banned more than 1,500 questionable chemical ingredients, they go even further! At Beautycounter, they screen rigorously using a variety of sources including government agencies and non-profit health organizations as well as scientific research from other countries that have stricter standards than the U.S. They are passionate about protecting us from endocrine disruptors which is something as you know I hold near and dear to my heart.

Dedication to providing a quality and safer product

Beautycounter is dedicated to learning constantly. They continue to investigate and launch private studies to close data gaps and learn from the latest emerging data on toxicity levels.

Over 80% of their products are organic, natural or plant-derived. They source from non-GMO supplies and have strict standards and screening of their ingredients to ensure the highest quality product. Beautycounter also shares ALL the ingredients in their products and does not hide chemicals under ingredient names like “fragrance.
