How to Support Gentle Detox Everyday

Easy and effective ways to support detox everyday and every week

Today, we are discussing easy and effective ways to gently support your detoxification system everyday without incorporating a detox shake or extreme juice cleanses. If you are wondering why you should consider one of these gentle approaches, you might want to read about how our bodies are designed to detox first.

When I work with clients, detoxification is often one of the last pieces we integrate into their wellness plan because often times their digestion and blood sugar are out of balance. In order for us to detox, we need our elimination systems running smoothly or else the toxins will be relocated to a different place in our body. It is important that we focus on these systems first rather than a detox plan. These suggestions have a gentle impact on the body and can help improve circulation and stimulate your lymphatic system.

Dry Brushing

Dry brushing helps to stimulate your lymph and improve your circulation. It is helpful for stimulating those trouble spots like underneath your arms and around your bra band. It is recommended that you do this before getting a shower to remove any dead skin cells. The only thing you will need is a natural bristle brush which you can get from any health food store or on Amazon. This one is my favorite dry brush.

To start, you will make small upward strokes against your skin with the brush. Starting at your feet and working upward. You want to continually brush towards your heart. You might notice that areas like your inner thighs or your stomach are more sensitive, so ease up on the pressure that you apply with the brush. The more you dry brush, the more pressure you will be able to apply. By brushing the skin surface, you will also be exfoliating your skin and as mentioned removing dead skin cells. As a result, your skin may appear firmer and softer over a period of time.

When you were a kid, who had a trampoline in your neighborhood? This fun activity as a kid actually helps to support circulation and once again get that lymph moving. Often times in our adult life, we struggle to get enough functional movement in our daily routine. A rebounder or a small trampoline is perfect for those with chronic illness or who want to improve their breast health. We need our lymph to be moving and flowing so that we are able to support blood purification and remove toxins.

I like to put on my favorite energetic songs while I bounce on the rebounder. You will want to bounce 10-15 minutes to help improve your circulation. You don’t even have to bounce hard like you did when you were a kid, a gentle and consistent bounce movement will be enough to stimulate a healthy blood flow. Perfect for those that work in an office after a day of sitting.

Legs up the wall

When you are in this half inverted position it helps to reverse the flow of gravity and supports blood purification. You can use any inverted position but for those of us that have yet to master a handstand, legs up the wall is a good option. I find that my body craves this method more when my thyroid is out of balance. Sometimes thyroid clients will experience swelling in their calves or ankles and this inverted position helps to improve the circulation as well as the other suggestions mentioned here. Adding this to your nightly routine is beneficial to unwind from your day and take some time to practice moving your breath throughout your body. This simple activity helps support the cardiovascular, lymphatic, endocrine and nervous systems.

Infrared saunas

Sweating either during exercise or in an infrared sauna can help eliminate toxins from your body. Infrared saunas use wavelengths that open up the blood vessels an inch into the skin to help improve detoxification. It also helps to eliminate heavy metals from the body which can be an underlying cause of many autoimmune diseases. I would recommend eating a clean diet and staying hydrated when using an infrared sauna.

How do I make these part of my routine?

I recommend trying out a few of these different ways and seeing which one your body craves. When we can tap into our bodies needs and rely more on our inner healer, our bodies tell us what it needs. Often times we want to “perfect” it so we feel we need to do it everyday or complete a challenge of a certain period of time, but really it doesn’t need to be this way. Start integrating a few of these methods into your weekly routine and listen to your bodies desire. Which one of these practices feel the best right now? And don’t worry, it will change over time. Sometimes my body is craving epsom salt baths and I will take one everyday of the week, other times its more about legs up the wall. Your body knows what it needs. You have to unlock that inner healer and listen. (Easier said than done I know, but after years of investing in spiritual healing I have become more in tune with my bodies needs. You can too. If you are interested in learning how to unlock your intuition and become your own healer, you can reach out to me and I’d be happy to help.)
